About Us

"Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today" —James Dean

In the early morning of August the 6th, my son Dustin and I made it to the infamous peak of Mount Kilimanjaro. We were wrought with altitude sickness— but filled with the desire and determination to carry the banner that my daughter, Alexa had made for us to share with the girls at Sega.

I will never forget the faces of the girls as they greeted us with a welcome dance in English, as we walked in the school door. It was a very touching moment. They all had such a passion for life and an amazing sense of humor.

They loved it when Dustin joined them in a dance.

I will never forget when my brother, Bruce (who was introduced as "Uncle") was showing the girls our safari pictures and he was asking them the Swahili name for each animal. When he came to a funny looking baboon, one of the girls blurted out, "Uncle!" We all burst out laughing. It was also so interesting to meet each girl and hear about her professional vision for the future—teachers, doctors, pilots, lawyers, secretaries and a Member of Parliament.

We also had an opportunity to visit the new building that is under construction.

It was a very rewarding day for us to meet these driven and inspired young women who are getting a second chance to create their life dreams. I whole-heartedly congratulate Nurturing Minds and SEGA for the work they are doing on behalf of the young women of Tanzania.
